JDW continues to lead the way for pre-professional training in Tasmania, with the state's most intensive training programs for students seeking to progress into Full Time training and a career in the Performing Arts.
Jenina's Dance Workshop recognises that there are students who wish to achieve something special out of their dance and performing arts training. To cater for these individuals, JDW offers two extended training options; Elevate and Squad.
Entry to Elevate (advanced) and Squad (intermediate) are by audition only, held in January each year, or at the discretion of the director. Students in these programs can expect a more demanding timetable in addition to their regular classes.
In 2012, Jenina and her team noticed a gap between the training offered in Tasmania and the skill level required to successfully audition for a Full Time studio on the mainland. So, Elevate was born, offering a Junior and Senior age group to refine and extend students performance and technical capabilities.
A fierce program for serious performers, Elevate students undertake an additional six (junior) or seven (senior) hours of training on top of their standard JDW classes. Elevate have their very own end-of-year concert, where they perform pieces from the year and have the chance to showcase their own choreography.
Outside of their training hours, Elevate represent JDW on a national stage. Annually, the Elevate team travel to cities such as Sydney, Gold Coast, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Las Vegas to train in industry-style workshops and compete at worldwide competitions, such as Pulse (USA) and Australian Dance Festival (Sydney).
Since it's inception, Elevate has seen more than a dozen students successfully audition for schools such as Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Brent Street, Dance Force, Sydney Dance Company, Patricks School of the Arts and many more.
Beyond this, the training methods used in Elevate have seen countless alumni venture across the world on successful performance careers, working with the likes of Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Sydney Dance Company, The Dream Dance Company, Broadway and West End.

"My time in JDW's Elevate program gave me insight to what it means to be motivated. The challenges the program presented me with allowed me to further understand myself as a dancer and showed me how much I really did want to pursue dance, in a professional sense."

After years of Elevate offering extended training to advanced, pre-professional dancers, JDW launched the Development Squads. Offered in Mini, Junior and Intermediate age groups, Squad offers an intimate dance experience for younger, intermediate students who want to hone in on their technique and style.
Squad offers two (mini) or three (junior & intermediate) additional classes to a dancer's timetable. It's perfect for students who are eager to progress into more training but perhaps aren't quite old enough or ready for the commitment of Elevate.
Their classes work towards achieving new skills that aren't taught in regular classes and learning how to sustain a high level of fitness, flexibility and overall body health to be a strong dancer. Squad work towards one annual performance, as a guest group at the Elevate concert.
Ultimately, Squad is the best possible preparation for our Elevate program, giving a taster of what it's like to undertake a more intensive training schedule without the hours of commitment. Most Squad students graduate the program after 1 - 2 years and move into Elevate.
"Eloise has developed significantly as a dancer since beginning squad. As parents, we love how the teachers support the dancers to set goals and work to achieve these goals, all while assisting them to develop a growth mindset. Eloise works hard all week in her classes, inspired by the guest and specialist teachers she encounters through development squad. Thank you for providing this amazing opportunity for our children."
