Jenina's Dance Workshop produces a huge amount of students who are successful at furthering their career in the performing arts industry; locally, nationally and internationally. Read their stories below!
Blair studied at JDW for 5 years before he moved to Sydney to train under the guidance of Sarah Boulter at Ev and Bow. During his time there he performed with a cast of dancers for the hit television show Eurovision. Blair has just completed a 13 month contract touring the United States with Ringling Bros. & Barnum Bailey Circus. He has worked for Feld Entertainment, the producers and owners of Disney Live, Disney on Ice and Monster Jam. He has also performed on the David Letterman show assisting Gemma the Jet and Ben Stiller. In 2017, Blair has just signed a contract to travel Asia, performing on Royal Caribbean Cruise line.
A talented all rounder, Ollie grew up in Tasmania training at JDW. In 2011 he moved to Melbourne to continue working towards a career in the entertainment industry, completing full time dance training at Ministry of Dance in 2012. Since graduating, Ollie has established himself as one of Melbourne’s most sought after dancers, signed with both the Ministry of Dance Agency and Giant Management. He has worked with renowned choreographers such as The Squared Division, Mikey Minden, Yvette Lee and Adrian Ricks. He has danced for the likes of Red Foo and Delta Goodrem, appeared in advertising campaigns for Heineken, New Balance, Politix and Kmart and most recently appeared on American hit TV show Dance Moms.
Starting at JDW as a Tiny Tot -Emma went on to graduate from the University of Ballarat Arts Academy in 2012, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre). Emma is an experienced children's entertainer having toured both locally and Internationally with many high profile kids brands. Credits include Peppa Pig Live- Australasian Tours in the role of Daisy (Host) as well as Resident Director and Understudy to Peppa Pig herself; The Australian Premier of Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom Live, as Mrs Elf and swing both for Life Like Touring. Emma has also been performing around Melbourne in various corporate events and calendar musts. Highlights include playing Lulu Elf (host) 4 years running for David Jones - Santa's Grand Arrival, in Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall. Host/MC for the Ballpark, Kids zone at the Australian Open (4 years), Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight at the Sidney Myer Music Ball for 4 years running as Host of the kids entertainment. Emma has also been the host of many high profile kids mini shows around Melbourne Including My little Pony, Sesame Street, Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly, Hey Duggee, Disney Cars, Ugly Dolls, Lalaloopsy, Spiderman and Baby Shark. In 2018 Emma launched her own kids Entertainment company, Em’s World where she has hosted for various Festivals and kids events around Melbourne, Highlights include MC for Wakakirri Melbourne Season, various Frankston Event’s including Mayors Family Picnic and Party in the Park and MC for multiple Festivals around Melbourne. Emma also proudly works for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, where she helps to bring smiles to seriously ill children around Australia.
Renee Ritchie career began at JDW at 17. Jenina was Renee’s very first teacher and mentor and without her guidance encouragement and knowledge she would not have know to believe in herself enough to take on dance as a career.
After moving to Sydney NSW to study Full-Time at Brent Street Dance Studios, Renee continued to pursue her training and career seeing herself on SYTYCD Australia (Top 12) and then all the way in Los Angeles.
Renee has worked with artists in Australia such as Kylie Minogue, Redfoo, Kelly Clarkson, Tina Arena, Jessica Mauboy, Ricki-Lee Coulter, Timomatic and more; and international artists such as J-LO, Paula Abdul, Chloe Flower, Major Lazer, MO, J-Balvin, Farruko, Wisin, Nicky Jam, Omi, Fitz and the Tantrums and more. Renee has been also featured on The Ellen Show, James Corden, Latin Grammyʼs and Peoples Choice Awards. Renee continues to travel the world sharing her passion for dance, teaching and choreography with some of the biggest artists and performers in the world.
Alex graduated in 2011 after completing the Performing Arts course and Musical Theatre course at Patrick Studios Australia. He has performed in various events, including the TV Week Logie Awards, Opening of Hamer Hall with Caroline O’Connor, Adelaide Cabaret Festival Opening Gala and Trevor Ashley’s Liza (on an E). Musical Theatre credits include ‘A-rab’ in West Side Story, ‘Tom Springfield’ in Dusty, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Anything Goes, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma! and Boy From Oz (TPC), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (TML Enterprises), South Pacific (Opera Australia), Loving Repeating (VTC), Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom the Musical (Global Creatures), Georgy Girl: The Seekers Musical (Richard East) and My Fair Lady (Opera Australia) directed by Dame Julie Andrews. TV/Film credits include Holding the Man (Screen Australia), Weevil (Lipkin Films), The Wrong Girl (Network 10) and Offspring (Network 10). Alex is currently in The Book of Mormon on the West End, London UK.
Hannah trained at Jenina’s Dance Workshop for 5 years before moving to Melbourne to pursue a career in performing arts. She completed 2 years of full time dance at Patrick Studios Australia. Since graduating, Hannah has been living and working overseas and on the high seas. She has cruised all over Europe and the USA during her 4 contracts with Norwegian Cruise Lines (2014-2018) both as a dancer and singer/dancer. Most recently Hannah has been living in Paris, France dancing at La Nouvelle Eve (2017, 2019). Hannah performed as a showgirl, featured Can Can soloist, and as replacement lead role for the cabaret. Hannah remembers her time at JDW fondly, and is ever grateful for the boost it gave her training in order to set her up for such a successful career.
Growing up in Hobart and training at Jenina’s Dance Workshop, Ella moved to Melbourne in 2011 and completed her Diploma in Music Theatre as well as her Certificate II and IV in Dance at Patrick Studios Australia. Since then, Ella has been overseas to Singapore and the Phillipines working in children’s entertainment. As her professional music theatre debut, she appeared as Consuela in West Side Story for the Production Company. Other credits include Michael Ralph’s production Hollywood Honky Tonk, as well as performing in Twisted Broadway in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Kate first hit the stage at a young age, and is fondly known for making audiences cackle with her winning comedy routines at the Hobart Eisteddfods. She trained in all aspects of dance with Mandy Lowrie and Jenina Evans, as well as spending many hours fine-tuning her Kath and Kim impressions. Whilst in Tasmania, Kate has performed in several ExitLeft productions including High School Musical alongside Debra Byrne, Tasmanian Theatre Unit Trust’s Monty Python’s Spamalot and more recently co-hosted Hobart City Council’s Carols by Candlelight. In 2011, Kate moved to Sydney to further her training at ED5 International under the direction of William A Forsythe, and graduated with a Diploma in Performing Arts. Kate has just finished playing the role of Natalie in Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom the Musical where she created and developed the original character as part of the all new, all Australian cast. Kate has also embraced a variety of other theatre and TV opportunities, including appearing as Linda in Channel 9’s 60 Minutes Milperra Massacre Special, McDonalds ‘Amore’ TVC, singing with Jessica Mauboy at the AACTA awards, dancing at the Black Tie For Breast Cancer Ball, and with many Australian theatre stars in the Premier’s Concert On Broadway.
Lockhart Brownlie is a Tasmanian-born dancer moving from Launceston to train at Jenina’s Dance Workshop. He then trained in Sydney, completing full time at Brent St, before landing a spot in Wicked and relocating to the US, where he had further success. Lockhart has performed at the Grammys, VMAs, television commercials and music videos. Most notably, he has danced with Taylor Swift, performed on Glee alongside Britney Spears, featured on True Blood in 2012 and made a name for himself as one of four male backup dancers for Katy Perry. We are super proud of Locky and cannot wait to see what the future holds for him.
After dancing at Jenina’s Dance Workshop since a small girl, Jessie knew that she wanted to pursue a career in the arts. In 2011 Jessie successfully auditioned to complete the Performing Arts, followed by the Musical Theatre Course at Patrick Studios Australia. She made her theatrical debut in The Production Company’s cast of Gypsy in 2013 and has recently completed two contracts with Norwegian Cruise Lines as a feature dancer and aerialist, performing in America, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
A 2014 VCA (BFA Music Theatre) graduate, Imogen spent 2019 touring Australia as Janine Nuttall in Muriel's Wedding. In 2020 she will tour in Rolling Thunder Vietnam. Other credits include Oklahoma! and Hello Dolly! (Minnie Faye) for The Production Company, Anything Goes for OA and John Frost (Hope Harcourt understudy/performed), Disney Under the Stars for Live Nation, Antarctica for Tas Theatre Co., A Fine Romance - The Magic of Fred Astaire for JTM Productions, Follies - In Concert for Storeyboard Entertainment, Avenue Q for Prince Moo Productions, Scooby Doo Live! - Level Up and Musical Mysteries for Life Like Touring, and Elevate! for The Dizzy Biz. Imogen is a proud member of Actors Equity and is forever grateful to Jenina Evans for her guidance and support.
Originally from Hobart Tasmania Josh Gates started his career understudying the role of a ‘young Peter Allen’ in The Boy From Oz, starring Hugh Jackman. He then performed the title role of ‘Billy Elliot’ in Billy Elliot the Musical in Melbourne and Sydney, which won him a Green Room Award for Best Actor in a Musical and an Australian Dance Award. While studying at Musical Theatre in Melbourne at Patricks Studios Australia Josh performed the role of ‘Oscar’ in Lachiusa Wild Party (Director Andrew Hallsworth) and Melchior in Spring Awakening (Director Tanya Mitford). After graduating with a Diploma of Music Theatre Josh performed in; La Cage Aux Folles (The Production Company), ‘Purser’ in the 2015 Australian tour of Anything Goes (Opera Australia/GFO), ‘Bellhop/Bootblack’ in Born Yesterday (Melbourne Theatre Company), in the Australian tour of the 60th anniversary production of My Fair Lady (Opera Australia/GFO, directed by Julie Andrews), and in the 2017-18 reimagined production of MAMMA MIA! THE MUSICAL (Gannon/Fox). Josh performed in the Australia Premier of LAZARUS David Bowie (The Prod Co) as Ben and then went on to the ensemble of Thoroughly Modern Millie (The Prod Co). In 2020 Josh will begin another Australia Tour in a yet to be announced musical.
After training at Jenina’s Dance Workshop, Lillian moved to Melbourne in 2011. Since then she has achieved a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance and Drama), and a Master’s of Teaching (P-12) (Dance and Drama) from Deakin University, Burwood. Lillian currently teaches Dance and Drama at Firbank Grammar School in Melbourne, where she has been pivotal in the implementation of VCE Dance into the school’s curriculum, teaching Firbank’s first VCE dance classes. She has recently introduced a competitive dance troupe to represent the school, and has choreographed various school musicals including Hairspray, Legally Blonde, and Lion King, and was the Assistant Director for Chicago. Lillian also teaches Drama from Year 7 to Year 9, and coordinates the Year 7 and 8 Drama curriculum at Firbank. Lillian hopes to impart the knowledge and enthusiasm she has for the Creative Arts, to the young minds of tomorrow.
Following her training at Jenina’s Dance Workshop, Sabine was awarded an OBGYN Scholarship for vocational training in dance, and received a scholarship to study a Certificate IV in Performing Arts with Dance Force on the Gold Coast. After completing this year of fulltime, Sabine was accepted into Sydney Dance Company’s Pre Professional Year, where she studied contemporary dance fulltime and completed her Diploma in Dance during 2019. In January 2020 Sabine performed in Stephanie Lake’s ‘Colossus’ as a part of the Sydney Festival. Sabine will continue her studies with Sydney Dance Company’s PPY in 2020 and complete her Advanced Diploma in Dance.
Tobias began his training at Jenina’s Dance Workshop in 2014. Whilst in Hobart, he performed in an array of musicals with companies including ExitLeft, Old Nick Co. and John X Presents. In 2017, Tobias moved to Ballarat to continue his training, graduating with a Bachelor of Acting for Stage and Screen at the Federation University Arts Academy in 2019. As part of his studies, he trained in ballet, jazz and tap, and in 2018, performed in and co-choreographed Dorothy Hewitt’s The Chapel Perilous, directed by Alice Darling.
Chloe began her journey of performing arts right here at JDW at four years old. In 2016 she moved to Melbourne to commence her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre) at The Victorian College of the Arts. Whilst at VCA Chloe performed as part of the ensemble of Eddie Perfect’s new musical ‘Vivid White’ at the Melbourne Theatre Company (dir. Dean Bryant), and was also the recipient of the Ron and Margaret Dobell Industry Award. Since graduating, she has performed in Thoroughly Modern Millie as Rita with The Production Company (dir. Chris Parker). Chloe is forever grateful to Jenina for the unwavering love and guidance she has received (and continues to receive), and JDW will always hold a very special place in her heart.
After training at Jenina’s Dance workshop for 4 years, Samantha moved to Melbourne and completed a two year Performing Arts course at Patrick Studios Australia, from where she graduated with the ‘Best Female Dancer’ award. Whilst training, Samantha performed at the 2012 Television Logie Awards as a dancer for the international artist Flo Rida. She also did several live and television performances with AGT Illusionist Cosentino. Samantha then set off on her first contract with Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2014 sailing around the Mediterranean, performing as a feature dancer and aerialist. Since then she has completed two more cruise contacts with NCL in 2015 sailing around America and 2018 as dance captain, travelling Northern Europe and Scandinavia.
Originally from Tasmania, training at Jenina’s Dance Workshop and ExitLeft, Eloise is a graduate of the 2012 SHOWFIT Musical Theatre course at Centrestage Performing Arts School. Eloise has toured extensively with LifeLike Touring and The Entertainment Store (TEG) to Hong Kong, Singapore, Middle East & Australia in Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, Peppa Pig Live Big Splash, Peppa Pig Live Treasure Hunt and Bob the Builder, and Songs of Frozen and Princess Anthems for the Australian Open. Corporate work includes performing at AON Platinum Club, Festival of Broadway, Pride of Australia Awards, David Jones ‘Santa’s Grand Arrival’ and Vision Australia’s Carols By Candlelight. Eloise was a Top-30 Semi-Finalist in the 2013 & 2015 Rob Guest Endowment Award, and has performed in her self-devised cabaret shows: Confessions of A Golden Child directed by Sara Grenfell and This Is 23 directed by Melissa Langton & Mark Jones. Most recently, Eloise was part of SONDER - A Charity Concert (Sonder Theatre Co.) at The Alex Theatre, The Songs of Drew Gasparini (EJ Productions) at Chapel Off Chapel, and Les Miserables directed by Chris Parker (ExitLeft Productions).
Georgia began training at JDW at age 11, and discovered her love of acting and character through dance. At age 18 she moved to Sydney to study at NIDA and in 2015 she graduated with a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts (Acting). She has been fortunate to work across many mediums, with theatre credits including Much Ado About Nothing (Dir. David Berthold), Choreography (Dir. Garry Stewart), Vale (Dir. Jeff Janisheski), Top Girls (Dir. Susanna Dowling), The Surgeon’s Hands (Dir. Annette Downs), and Youth and Destination (Dir. James Raggatt). Her feature film credits include Thor: Ragnarok (Marvel Entertainment), and Emu Runner (Imogen Thomas Films), and television credits include Home and Away (Network 7). She also stars as Joan Blackett in British miniseries The Singapore Grip, coming to ITV in 2020.
Taylah has been passionate about performing from a very young age starting at Jenina’s Dance Workshop when she was just three years old. She also trained at ExitLeft performance Academy, React drama school, Barbra Todd Ballet School and vocal lessons from Jane Edwards before moving to Melbourne to complete her diploma in musical theatre at Patrick Studios Australia under the guidance of Andrew Hallsworth. During her time at Patrick Studios Taylah had the opportunity to perform in the Beyond Blue Priscilla Queen of the Desert performance at the MCG and the feature film “Spencer” produced by interlude productions. Taylah finished her time at Patrick Studios playing the role of Velma Kelly in her graduating musical Chicago. In 2019 Taylah had the pleasure of being apart of the cast of Rock of Ages the musical on the Norwegian Breakaway playing the role of Waitress no. 1 and also staring in Wine Lovers the musical onboard. Jenina’s Dance Workshop has shaped Taylah as a performer and a person, Jenina’s inspiring energy is infectious and is carried on through her wonderful staff, she makes every single student feel special and talented and that is what makes for such a happy, encouraging environment in the school.
Anastasia grew up in Tasmania, training with Jenina for 7 years. The training she was given at JDW has gone on to shape the performer that she is today and she is eternally grateful. In 2015, Anastasia was awarded 1 of 4 inaugural Opera Australia Regional Student Scholarships to train with Opera Australia in Sydney, before moving permanently to Sydney to study at the Conservatorium of Music doing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance since 2017. Anastasia was the recipient of the Patim Fund Scholarship fund in 2018. She also performed as a soloist in the Bel Canto Australia for Lions Club of Hobart charity concert alongside Michael Lampard in 2018. During her time in Sydney, she has performed as a singer and dancer at Luna Park Sydney from 2017- 2019, as well as performing in musicals and operas. Credits include “Enthusiastic Creature” in Lumiphonic Creature Choir, a multimedia rock opera art installation, Soloist in cabaret shows Before tomorrow and Into a new life, featured dancer in Tuck Everlasting and “Gypsy” in Carousel for MUSE and Sweet Charity for Willoughby Theatre Company.
Lisa began classes at JDW in 2002 at age 4. Expanding her love for performing, she began singing lessons (Exitleft Performance Academy) and performed in many local musicals for companies including MTC, Old Nick Summer Schools, Hobart Repertory Theatre Society and Exitleft Productions. In 2018, Lisa graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre). Whilst at the VCA, Lisa performed at Hamer Hall in Morning Melodies (Arts Centre Melbourne), in musicals ‘A Chorus Line’ and ‘Into the Woods’ and was the swing and dance captain for Eddie Perfect’s ‘Vivid White’ (Melbourne Theatre Company).
Last year, she toured Victorian schools with Perform Education’s book week show ‘Big Dreams!’.
Originally from Tasmania, Eloise started dancing at a young age and spent her last 4 years at home in Hobart training at JDW. In 2016, Eloise moved to Melbourne and began full time Contemporary training at Transit Dance under the Artistic Direction of Paul Malek. Over two years, she completed her Certificate IV and Diploma in Dance (Elite Performance) having then went on to do a third year of full time training under the mentorship of Israel Aloni in the Transit International Professional Pathway program. Throughout this time, Eloise worked with several Nationally and Internationally recognised contemporary artists and companies, performed in festivals such as Victorian Dance Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival and at the end of 2018, toured Stephanie Lake’s and Israel Aloni’s double-bill (Maturus) to Townsville. Her other credits with multi-award winning Australian Choreographer, Stephanie Lake include her work Colossus in which Eloise performed as a lead dancer first in it’s season at the Arts Centre for Melbourne Fringe Festival in 2018 and then in it’s professional remount with Stephanie Lake Company for Melbourne International Arts Festival in 2019.
